About Cuatro Ciénegas

The valley of Cuatro Cienegas is located 3 hours from Torreon, in the central part of the state of Coahuila, México, is one of the places with the greatest number of endemic species of all North America, its high biodiversity and more than 70 unique species in the place, make of this 200 square km. desert valley, a spectacular scenario to be enjoyed. In terms of unique ecosystems in the world, is compared with the Galapagos Islands.

One of the main characteristics of the place is that its biodiversity is associated to a incredible and diverse complex of thousands of geothermic sources which make wells, lagoons and rivers.

Many of the species of plants and animals inhabiting this zone, as the bisagra turtle, the white soft shell turtle or the blind fish are between the species considered as in extinction danger, and due to this, in 1994 the valley was declared as a Natural Protected Area of flora and fauna.

Among the attractive of the city, are: the Templo de San Jose, construction of the end of the XIX century; the school Benito Juárez, finished in 1900; the city Hall, build by instructions of Venustiano Carranza in 1918; the house where Carraza was born, actually turned into a museum, such as the statue of Benito Juárez, donated by the general Cesáreo Castro in 1917.

In the wells is possible to practice diving, mountain bike, landscape, underwater and wild life photography; camping and rappel, without living beside the research possibilities about the living forms founded in the place.
